Today I want to show you around the famous place of China----Xiamen Gulang Island.

Gulang Island is separated by the LU rivier to Xiamen. So we will across the harbor from downtown Xiamen lies the famous 1.91 square kilometer island of G(or "Drum Waves," because the breakers pound the rocks like drums).then we will arrive a piano wharf. This wharf first build up in 1937,then rebuild in1976, Do you know why named piano wharf? There are more than 500 pianos among 6000 households on the island. Many famous musicians in China were born and brought up on it, like the conductor and the art supervisor of the Chinese symphony orchestra, Chen Zuohuang, famous pianist Yin Chengzong who are both Gulang Island locals. That’s because the Gulang island have another name is piano island. and there have a odium and a music school.

The island was an international settlement last century. 13 countries had set up consulates on this island. So the western architecture style was brought here and merged with the local craftsmanship. Besides, many overseas Chinese who lived in Southeast Asia early this century also brought back the architecture style there. So we say Gulang Island is the museum of architecture building.

And we also call walking island or democracy island. Vehicles and bicycles are forbidden on the tiny island. Even if the president visit, Only allow garbage truck and electric car.

The famous place of Guland land is sunlight rock. Why call that rock sunlight rock? It’s not mean the rock will be shine, relation the name of sunlight rock have two parlance: one is everyday the sun rise in the Wulao mountain, it shines directly into the convent (Halfway up the mountain of sunlight rock there is a convent.The first name is Lotus), and lightens it up immediately. Hence Lotus Buddhist Convent is also called "Sunlight Temple". There is another story that in 1647 when the hero Zheng Chenggong came to the Dazzling Rock(sunlight another name), and saw the views here were far more beautiful than Sunlight Mountain of Japan, he took apart the Chinese character "晃" (dazzling) and named the rock "Sunlight Rock". And Lotus Buddhist Convent was named "Sunlight Temple".

The sunlight rock With a height of 92.7 meters above the sea level, it is the highest peak of the island. Dragon Head Mountain stands against the Tiger Head Mountain of Xiamen on the opposite shore. And the two mountains guard the sea together. At the story goes the Guland island was dwelt five dragons.

Along the zigzag stone steps, you can reach the highest peak of the Sunlight Rock. The heavenly wind is blowing, and the sea waves are surging. Looking into the distance, you can take everything into your eyes, such as views of Xiamen and Gulang Island, sights of Lu River.
