Zimmerman Seeks Re-Election

Joe Zimmerman, Mayor of Sugar Land, has announced his bid for re-election. Zimmerman, who was elected the 10th Mayor of Sugar Land in 2016, is looking forward to continuing to represent the residents of Sugar Land and serve his community for another term. As Mayor, Zimmerman has seen the City of Sugar Land experience growth in both business and residential, including the much-anticipated grand opening of the Smart Financial Centre, the annexation of Greatwood and New Territory later this year and through the historical rainfall of Hurricane Harvey.
Zimmerman is a champion of education and has been instrumental in creating an alliance, during his term as Mayor, between the Fort Bend County ISD board as well as other school districts. He has been passionate in his efforts to represent the residents of Sugar Land and keep local representation in the forefront. The City of Sugar Land continues to thrive and is now home to a festival site, a children's museum, and a heritage museum. With several higher education options, including the University of Houston’s Tier One Sugar Land location, accredited medical and health care facilities located within the city, and top-ranked businesses relocating to Sugar Land, the city continues to be the best place to live, work, and play.
Joe is a successful businessman and is the Director of Development for Cobb Fendley & Associates, Inc., a private civil engineering consulting firm. He business background includes having served in senior management positions in a number of different industries including consulting engineering, water and wastewater operations, land acquisition/land development/homebuilding as well as an international assignment in Libya.
Before becoming Mayor, Joe held many positions including four years as the At-Large, Position 2, City Councilman and was a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission for eight years, serving six years as Chairman. He currently serves on the Economic Development Committee, Inter-Governmental Relations Committee, Sugar Land Development Corporation Board, 4b Board, TIRZ 4 Board and as the COSL representative to the Houston-Galveston Area Council Transportation Policy Council.
Joe is looking forward to continuing to represent his community, his neighbors, and all of Sugar Land. He and his wife of 41 years, Nancy, have made Sugar Land their home since 1990 and are active members of Second Baptist Church. Their daughter, Allison, her husband Chris Wallace, granddaughter Emmy, and grandson Campbell live in Houston.
